the rule of twelfths is used to estimate the levels of water during a tide cycle by taking the difference between the highest and lowest tide and dividing it into twelve equal chunks. in this piece, I divided my page into twelve equal chunks and pasted a gelli print on each, simulating the rise and fall of tides against time.
what is gelli printing? it's a monoprint technique that uses a gel pad to layer acrylic paint over and over a piece of paper to form an artwork. this piece features 12 gelli unique gelli prints AND 2 gelli prints as the front and back "covers". (yes, it folds into a book!)
